Investigation Category:

Animals’ Angels investigators were saddened to witness the ongoing suffering of the animals at the Escalon Livestock Auction in California during a recent three-day investigation. In spite of a previous agreement to improve the treatment of animals at the sale, the auction has made no improvements, and conditions of the pitiful animals in their care have deteriorated since our last investigation.

Day one began with the bird and rabbit sale, where animals were caged without water, dumped in bags, and thrown in buyers’ car trunks without care. The cows in the main barn, who were emaciated and injured, were slammed into gates, prodded with metal sticks, and given no water. The following two days were even worse: small goats were thrown around like feedbags and piles of dead cows were dumped out back. Live cows soon joined the pile.
