Slaughter Horses in PensGreat news from our EU campaign: Carrefour, the French multinational retail and wholesaling corporation which operates more than 13,800 stores, announced that it will no longer buy horse meat from South America. The decision, which will go in effect by the end of 2024- will include every store located in Belgium, Italy and France.

Since 2012, Animals’ Angels and our EU partner organizations (Animal Welfare Foundation, Gaia, Welfarm and others) have reported about the cruelty of the horse meat trade in the Americas and have urged politicians and importers to stop buying horse meat from businesses that do not care about animal welfare and traceability issues.

Our investigations in Canada, the United States, Mexico, Argentina and Uruguay have shown over and over what horrors horses trapped in the slaughter pipeline go through. Carrefour’s decision is another milestone in the fight to end this atrocity for good.
