Trent Ward, d/b/a/ T & M Horse Company, is a kill buyer who has been in the horse slaughter business for decades and he has violated the Commercial Transport of Equines to Slaughter Regulations multiple times. In 2006, Ward was fined $21,450.00 for transporting horses unable to bear weight on all four legs, 7 not segregated stallions and multiple paperwork violations. Ward disappeared for a while after the closure of the Texas plants, but since then has resumed his operations and is supplying horses to the Camargo plant.
When investigators visited the premises in Kaufman, they noticed several thin horses in an overgrown pasture behind Ward’s domicile. Hay bales were stacked up in front of a sheltered pen area, which held 2 ponies. A mini was visible grazing in the yard. A pickup truck & small horse trailer arrived at 11:00am and left again shortly thereafter. There was no more activity.
