Date:
Wednesday, March 9, 2011 - 16:00
Investigation Category:

Members of the Ohio Livestock Care Board held a public meeting to discuss Ohio’s proposed new regulations for equine care and transport, which are a part of the new “Livestock Care Standards”, Section 902:12 of the Administrative Code.  Animals’ Angels participated in the meeting to raise concerns about certain parts and the wording of 902:12 as well as to stress the importance of addressing welfare problems at Ohio auctions. Additionally, 902:12 aims to prohibit the transport of horses on double deck trailers. However, one concern is that the Ohio Department of Agriculture will be in charge of dealing with the violation and assessing the civil penalty. Animals’ Angels will continue to monitor the progress and suggest further improvement of 902:12.
