Animals’ Angels representatives met with New Holland’s Chief of Police Donald Bowers to discuss possibilities of working together to ensure better enforcement of animal cruelly laws in Lancaster County. New Holland and surrounding areas are home to multiple large auctions, slaughter plants, puppy mills and backyard breeders and there is an urgent need to protect these animals from abusive owners and traders. Donald Bowers Jr. assumed leadership of the New Holland Police Department on July 6, 2010. The meeting was very productive. Animals’ Angels discussed past investigation and areas of concern with Bowers and provided information about the organization and its approach. AA representatives also shared their observations regarding out of state livestock haulers coming into New Holland without DOT number and with solo drivers, which creates a severe safety risk for the town. Animals’ Angels is cautiously optimistic that by securing the cooperation of the local police future cruelty complaints will be getting the attention and the enforcement they deserve.
