La Junta Horse Auction, CO 8/27/10

Date:
Friday, August 27, 2010 - 10:30
Investigation Category:

The auction consisted of 160 cattle and 102 horses. The handling was rough with auction employees aggressively utilizing whips to move the animals. Five horses had twisted left front legs. It could not be determined if these injuries were genetic or the result of a tripping rodeo.  Present at the auction were “kill buyers”, Charles Carter and Bud Shirley. Charles Carter purchased 25 horses and Bud Shirley purchased 21 horses. Their pens were overcrowded with agitated horses kicking, biting and fighting. Animals’ Angels will continue to monitor this auction.
