Animals’ Angels investigators were present at the monthly Hoover sale. There were approx. 300 horses present at the sale. The majority of the buyers/sellers at this sale are Amish or Mennonite, advertising their horses in the sale catalogue with comments like: “Ready for 30 mile trips” or “no drugs & signed EID papers”. Some of the pens in the barn were again very crowded and horses were observed kicking and biting each other. Some of the Standardbreds were very nervous and the handlers had difficulties controlling the horses, causing dangerous situations for both auction visitors & animals in the narrow alleys. Most pens had plastic water buckets tied to the railing, but many of them were empty. Several horses were very thin and some appeared sick. Known kill buyers were in attendance.
