Upon arrival at the Southwest Livestock auction premises, investigators noted that there were approx. 500 horses in the pen area. Several trucks and empty single & double deck trailers were parked in front of the pen area. Several of the horses present were thin and had overgrown hooves. All the pregnant & nursing mares were kept in one large pen, which was very filthy. One of the foals inside the pen appeared to be only a few hours old. It was a very hot day and they noticed that the area smelt like decomposition. At the side of the pen the carcass of a foal was visible. Animals’ Angels will continue to monitor the facility.
