Investigators visited the Centennial Livestock Auction in Colorado on 9/15/2010. Today the sale consisted of 1100 sheep, 900 goats, 4 llamas, 65 pigs, 40 calves and approximately 30 horses. The horse lasted 35 minutes. Most horses were in satisfactory shape, however, investigators noticed that two were thin and three were lame. One mare, a registered quarter horse, had foundered and was having a hard time walking.
Known “kill buyer” Charles Carter purchased 11 horses, including the foundered mare. Carter sold the mare to a Mexican tripping rodeo after the sale and Carter said she would be returned to him in two weeks to be shipped to Mexico for slaughter.
