Animals’ Angels attended the monthly horse sale operated by known kill buyer Brian Moore. The sale is held every 2nd Saturday of the month at 4:00pm in the new building of the Lebanon Valley Livestock Auction. Brian Moore’s maroon semi and single deck trailer was parked next to the barn, two empty pick-up trucks with large stock trailers and New Jersey & Maryland license plates were backed up to the loading ramps. There were approx. 25 horses in the pen area, as well as 6 minis, 2 llamas and 1 goat. Some pens had water & hay, while other pens had nothing. Two horses caught the investigators’ eye: One mare in the back of the pen area appeared to be very exhausted. She never moved and continued to close her eyes. Another mare was severely emaciated (BCS 2), her body covered with old cut marks, limping on the left hind leg. She sold for $25.00 to a private buyer. All horses were moved to the auction ring individually. The sale ended at 6:50pm and loading started immediately afterwards. Complaints about the emaciated mare, which appears to have been sold in violation of PA §5511d, have been filed. Animals’ Angels will continue to monitor this auction.
