Animals’ Angels USA Exposes the Truth of Horse Slaughter

Blow to Swiss Horse Meat Market Expected

JAL12HMM04-1006lIn a global campaign, Animals’ Angels Inc. (AA USA) and our European Ally Tierschutzbund Zürich (TSB) have gathered extensive information about the horse slaughter industry.

Evidence obtained through investigations conducted throughout 2012 proves that horse meat imported from Canada, Argentina and Mexico and sold in Switzerland was produced in violation of EU as well as Swiss animal welfare standards. Additionally, we were able to prove that labels on packaged meat throughout Switzerland contain false information and that contrary to the claims of importers and distributors, the horses are not transported, cared for and slaughtered according to EU and Swiss standards.

Animals' Angels asks for your help - Report violations of Double Deck transport amendment

La_Junta_Auction_102910-42Since October 7, 2011 the new amendment of the Commercial Transport of Equines to Slaughter Regulation is in effect, making it illegal to use double deck trailers for any transport of slaughter horses. However, the protection of the regulation is only as good as the enforcement.

Animals’ Angels is therefore asking for your help to monitor auctions, feedlots and roads  and report violations. We have created a “Double Deck Transport Observation Report” which provides you with additional information about what to look for and how to identify a double deck horse transport. If you witness any violations, please document it and return the observation report to Animals’ Angels. Please share this information far and wide, we need to have as many eyes as possible at the auctions and feedlots across the United States.

Thank you so much for your help!

International Equine Conference Huge Success

IMG_1245The International Equine Conference was a huge success and very well attended. Speakers had impressive expertise and data in medicine, veterinary medicine, law, public policy, humane advocacy, history, politics, zoology, ecology and more! A heartfelt thanks to the Equine Welfare Alliance, the Animal Law Coalition, Dr. Ann Marini, and everyone for putting together such an incredible event packed with so many strong presenters.

Our presentation was very well received and Animals’ Angels received a lot of positive feedback for our work. Also appreciated was our new film A Horse’s Nightmare, released for the first time at the conference. To be used to gain support for legislative efforts banning horse slaughter and to raise further awareness about the issue, the film is a short 7 minutes/7seconds.
